Social issues in Britain

UN experts criticize British record on social issues! After all, the Brits haven’t yet adopted comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation as required by the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (145 signatories), even though they’ve had since 1976 to do it. Besides, the experts are “deeply troubled” by the increase in domestic violence. Who can blame them?

If they’re experts, I say all this must be disinterested and true. Isn’t that what “expert” means? Meanwhile, trouble may be brewing. A poll discloses that many young Britons harbor shockingly reactionary attitudes—more than half disagree that Britain is “proudly multi-ethnic!” Some re-education is in order, I think, and will no doubt be demanded by the next panel of experts.
