Questionnaire helps you eliminate ethnic stereotypes

As a contribution to the building of a truly peaceful and equal world in which no one ever discriminates against anyone, View from the Right offers the following questionnaire we received over the Internet yesterday. The questionnaire is designed to demonstrate the utter falsity of preconceived negative views that Americans may entertain about minority and non-Western ethnic groups, in this case young Muslim men. In particular, it shatters once and for all the idea that security measures at airports should not focus on all ethnic groups equally. We present the quiz in the spirit of David K. Shipler’s principle of self-examination, as presented in his book A Country of Strangers: Blacks and Whites in America:

This is the ideal: to search your attitudes, identify your stereotypes, and correct for them as you go about your daily duties.
We urge the reader to keep Mr. Shipler’s important admonitions in mind as he responds to the following questions, ruthlessly eliminating any stereotypes about young Muslim men that he may find lurking in his own consciousness. If the reader does so with the requisite religious zeal, we have no doubt that he will avoid any incorrect answers.

_________

As we suggested at the beginning, a perfect score—meaning that the respondent did not answer (d.) on any question—requires an unusual level of zeal and moral commitment in the individual’s effort to eliminate ethnic stereotypes from his consciousness. Respondents who got such a perfect score are eligible to receive the David K. Shipler Award for Mind Purity. Winners should e-mail View from the Right with their snail mail address to receive their plaque.

Of course, absolute perfection from everyone cannot be expected at this point. A (d.) answer on from one to three questions is considered acceptable by current standards. However, higher numbers of stereotype-positive responses demonstrate varying degrees of social malfunction that should not be allowed to fester. Accordingly, anyone who answered (d.) on from four to six questions should sign up for an NAACP/Anti-Defamation League Approved Stereotype Eradication course in his local town or city. Anyone who answered (d.) on more than six questions is urged to report immediately to one of America’s twelve regional Tolerance Re-Education Centers.

Compliance is voluntary under existing guidelines.
