Hardliner opposes war on Iraq

In a sign that support for Bush’s projected war on Iraq may be fading, Christopher Ruddy of NewsMax.com, who is generally a hard-liner on national defense, says that absent proof that Hussein’s regime contributed to the September 11th attack, the United States should not invade Iraq but instead continue covert operations to bring down the regime. “An outright invasion without the evidence linking Saddam to 9-11 will be viewed by the rest of the world as a gross abuse of America’s superpower status,” he writes. “Can’t we achieve the same goals by helping indigenous forces and groups to bring down Saddam?”
