EU and other corruption

The future is notoriously unforeseeable. Current trends nonetheless seem discouraging in many ways, so much so that the brightest hope for a liveable world sometimes seems the tendency of contemporary liberal institutions toward corruption: Whistle-blower admits defeat on EU corruption. The tendency seems inevitable in a society based on individual self-seeking, affirmative action payoffs, and multiculturalism (a.k.a. the abolition of concrete standards of personal conduct). The Clinton Administration may be only a sign of things to come. The good thing about corruption is that it makes it impossible for government seriously to attempt to carry out comprehensive plans, like the remodeling of the human soul. A corrupt polyglot despotism may be a cruddy place to live, but it’s better than efficient totalitarianism.
