December 7, 1942

No time for the mawkish:

Nobody was ready for “healing” on December 7, 1942, and “closure” was the last thing anybody wanted.

America, on the first anniversary of that other date that lives in infamy—often the benchmark by which September 11 is judged—wanted blood and vengeance, without apology.

No flowers, no teddy bears, and no exploration of the national angst. No presidential admonitions to think of Shinto as a religion of peace, no appeals to understand the frustrations that drove the misunderstood Nazis to rape Poland and bomb London.

The front pages of the nation’s newspapers were stuffed with news of war.

For Robert Fisk’s viewpoint (to which I lean more than the usual babble): http://www.independent.co.uk/story.jsp?story=332182

To give an idea of the credibility of British journalist Robert Fisk, who is recommended by Stephen, in the linked article Fisk writes this howler:

“I have to say that I have yet to meet a Muslim who has expressed anything but horror about September 11.”

To give an idea of where Stephen is coming from, his e-mail address is stephen@allofyourgodsaredead.com.

Yes I forgot being atheist meant being a left liberal who would love Israel driven into the sea and a obfuscative selective knowledge of history to back up my arguments, bah!. Fisk is always worthy of my time as he is able to present me in the absence of any non-biased accounts of the war a biased account which helps me balance my own opinions. Yes, of course Arabs approve in private of any kind of stab in the dark at Israel and its Stockholm syndrome ally the US but I regard in my own sense that Arabs would publicly especially to westerners express disgust at the human tragedy rather than the emotional poltical issues behind it. Of course Fisk has no doubt seen many flag burning events and hatred of America but questioned as a human tragedy people asked about sept 11 will usually produce a humanist reaction and this is what he was refering to.

Wasn’t Fisk that journalist who was badly beaten by some Pakistanis or Afghans several months ago and then told everyone he deserved it because he is a white Westerner? Sounds like just another self-hating white liberal. I believe Mark Steyn wrote a good piece about this incident.
