Those H1-B Visas

I wonder if the people who authored statutes outlawing discrimination based on national origin ever anticipated it would be used to prosecute employers who fire U.S. citizens and replace them with foreign workers with H1-B visas. (It’s not really discrimination of course; it’s all about the benjamins, baby.)

This is the main reason I hate Microsoft and Intel. Those bastards forced the DOL to TRIPLE the amount of H1-Bs.

Last week’s San Jose paper had a very revealing story about the plight of Americans sacked to make way for Indian and Chinese H-1Bs. There was a fascinating subtext to the story, unremarked in the headline or by the reporter, that shows what an unremitting body-mill American immigration has become. Reading the story, it becomes obvious that a lot of the “Americans” being displaced are Indians and Chinese themselves, who came here in the 1980s and are now U.S. citizens (note to self: why?). One wonders what has become of the born-Americans that earlier wave displaced, but they, of course, are beneath the notice of our journalistic establishment. HRS
