Community Service Award
The Spanish news service, EFE, reports that the Mexican consulate in Kansas City has given an award to Raul Murguia for his service to that city’s Mexican immigrant community. Murguia’s generosity strikes me as genuinely commendable. After all, he immigrated from Mexico himself. Who could fault him for his solidarity with others of his ilk? What’s more, Murguia is good enough to point out the effect of the Mexican influx to this Midwest city: “When I was there, there were maybe three, four kids needing ESL (English as a Second Language),” Murguia said. “Now, there are hundreds in the northeast [section of Kansas City].” Posted by at October 25, 2002 06:26 PM | Send Email entry |
