Muhammad really wanted $10 million

As if John Muhammad’s motives were not already confusing enough (since he seemed to be part psycho serial killer, part terrorist), it turns out that he was also an extortionist. According to a forensic psychiatrist who examined Muhammad’s long note to the police in which he demanded $10 million, “The extortion motive was more meaningful to the suspects than many have been willing to consider…. The implausibility of the idea that they are just going to get $10 million, and that they will get carte blanche at any ATM around the world, is significant. The cunning attributed to these people was substantially overstated.”
