Equal Immigration, Equal Loss of Freedom

The Anti-Profiler. A few months after the September 11th attack, New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg was heard on a radio program saying: “Even if it means another terrorist attack, I would rather that than single out Muslims for special scrutiny, because that would be un-American.”

Bloomberg’s assumption, which is the assumption of modern America itself, can be spelled out as follows: First we let the terrorists in, then we must let our freedoms be diminished through the institution of sweeping anti-terrorism measures that are directed in a rigorously equal, “non-discriminatory” manner against all of us. The immigration of Muslims is non-discriminatory, and the resulting destruction of our freedoms is also non-discriminatory. That’s what America is all about.

Lawrence, where did Bloomberg state all that you claim he believes? As I read the quote, he was saying that he’s not in favour of singling out one particular ethnic/religious group for special scrutiny.

As suggested in the post, this is not a published quote but something heard on the radio that someone told me about. However, since then, others have told me that they heard the same thing, and Dennis Prager did a radio show on it denouncing Bloomberg for it. If I can get the date and even a published version of the quote I’ll pass it on.

I have no love lost for Burgermeister Bloomberg, but the quote seems suspect. The quote is too direct and this guy has too much savvy for both politics and journalism to let that slip from his lips.

I remember a quote like this in which a famous GOP operative said he would rather see abotrion legal forever and his party destroyed than for it to win solely by the power of white votes.
