The Left’s alternative to war on Iraq
If you’re looking for a rational alternative to President Bush’s war policy and feel that the antiwar right has so far failed to provide one, you may be interested in checking out what the antiwar left has to say. Writing in the November 2002 American Prospect, Morton Halperin offers a fully articulated alternative to a U.S. invasion of Iraq. What Halperin has to say is most interesting. Unfortunately, what it comes down is a recipe for world government, administered and controlled by the United Nations, with the United States reduced to a mercenary force at the beck and call of the U.N. Halperin’s proposals and his underlying assumptions closely fit the analysis of bureaucratic liberalism that has often been made at VFR.
