How Democrats would wage war
The Democrats have decided they need to outdo President Bush on the war against terror, a subject they have hitherto let him handle. The problem is, since Democrats are not exactly keen on military preparedness or immigration controls or any of the other types of activities that might be relevant to national security, what proposals can they make? This article provides some humorous answers.
Reality being stranger than fiction, however, the article leaves out a real-life example of Democratic military thinking which is as suitably bizarre as anything a satirist could concoct. When the new House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi told Charlie Rose a few weeks ago that Bush’s war on terror was lagging, and Rose then asked her what she would do make it more effective (and he had to ask her three times before she answered), she said the greatest reason for terrorism is poverty, and the solution to poverty is education, and so the way to defeat Al Qaeda is … to fund more education around the world. She really said it.
Comments
We must be quite careful to analyze every Democratic public policy announcement on the military, U.S. defense and the war on terrorism by carefully comparing the publicly announced purpose with the often hidden but real motive. They are masters of misdirection and deception. Often they put forward a plan that will sow dissension and foment class warfare. For example:
Let me suggest that he is more interested in resurrecting the shameful defeatism of the Vietnam era anti-war movement here at home by again splitting Americas citizenry into pro and anti war factions. Restarting class warfare based on a lottery draft system would play into the Democrats coalition of minorities that became a political majority in the 60s & 70’s. It would also generate much more left wing and liberal congressional opposition to U. S. defense plans and war efforts if the children of our millionaire legislators could not avoid the draft by educating themselves into middle- age.
America today has an all volunteer military force of patriotic, highly trained people led by competent professionals, dedicated to our nations survival. Our topmost military capabilities are highly secret. There are at least a dozen classified levels of information above the one termed “top secret” and its is a federal crime to so much as speak the names of some of these in public. The military has learned to bottle up the media which prevents the anti war stories that came from the battlefronts in Vietnam complete with horrific photos of American atrocities to fuel the street rage of the draft dodgers at home. What a sly trickster Chalie Rangel is.He voted against giving the the Presidnt authority to deal with Iraq. Could his new approach to legislative proposals be dictated by the realities of the new power alignment in the congress. The Democrats, no longer able to bottle up bills they don’t like in committee and being scrutinized very carefully for anonymous leaks that they place in the left- media take over the direction and conduct of the war by 5th column legislation? Rep. Pelosi’s comments make it clear why the Democrats haven’t censured Senator Murray. They think she’s right: the way to fight terrorism is to outdo Osama bin Laden in building roads and schools, and in funding education. It’s a race to see who can be the biggest sugar daddy.
