Mulroney regrets Canada’s “repudiation” of U.S.

Not all Canadians are against the war:
For 135 years, Canada has made common cause with Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States in the defence of liberty and freedom around the world … Now we have repudiated at a crucial, seminal moment in our history our allies and coalition partners of the past. And we have new partners, the Russians, the Chinese and the Germans. This represents quite a change and I want to tell you I am one of many Canadians who is dissatisfied with it and regrets it.

More importantly, Stephen Harper, the current leader of the Canadian official opposition party (i.e. rather than an ex-politician), also took a principled stand in favour of Canadian participation in the war. There have also been pro-American demonstrations in a number of Canadian cities in the last week in reaction to anti-American ones. (And no one booed the U.S. anthem at the Toronto Blue Jays game the other night.) That being said, there is an enormous amount of Anti-Americanism here—though this is perhaps now being hurriedly covered up following the U.S. ambassador’s criticisms, which have been making people worried about the economic consequences of annoying the United States.
