War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Patriotism is …
The left’s definition of patriotism. “I refuse to cede the definition of American patriotism to George W. Bush,” said Eric Foner, the Marxist chairman of Columbia University History Department, drawing a cheer from the audience at the now infamous antiwar teach-in at Columbia. “I have a different definition of patriotism, which comes from [the Stalinist musician and actor] Paul Robeson: The patriot is the person who is never satisfied with his country.”
Is that Orwellian or what? Comments
Foner’s feeble attempt at appropriating the idea of patriotism is disgusting. Perhaps, they should read Notes on Nationalism. I think he was reiterating the common wisdom that a patriot’s duty is to his nation rather than his state, which I think is a very agreeable stance. I think your slander of a man who obviously loves his country and doesn’t want to see it lose touch with its roots is much more “feeble” than anything he could come up with.
