War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Patriotism is …

The left’s definition of patriotism. “I refuse to cede the definition of American patriotism to George W. Bush,” said Eric Foner, the Marxist chairman of Columbia University History Department, drawing a cheer from the audience at the now infamous antiwar teach-in at Columbia. “I have a different definition of patriotism, which comes from [the Stalinist musician and actor] Paul Robeson: The patriot is the person who is never satisfied with his country.”

Is that Orwellian or what?

Foner’s feeble attempt at appropriating the idea of patriotism is disgusting.
However, an anarcho-leftist group led by an ex-Trotskyite, mocking the war is truly Orwellian.
The commies revolutionaries and communists are appropriating Orwell.

Perhaps, they should read Notes on Nationalism.

I fail to see how Marxists against the war are Orwellian… And also, I don’t think Foner was trying to appropriate anything. I think he was reiterating the common wisdom that a patriot’s duty is to his nation rather than his state, which I think is a very agreeable stance. I think your slander of a man who obviously loves his country and doesn’t want to see it lose touch with its roots is much more “feeble” than anything he could come up with.
