The left’s fantasies of Iraq

“Deprived of another Vietnam, nostalgic lefties [joined by their allies on the antiwar right] try to turn Iraq into another Watergate.”

I think an Iran-Contragate would be closer. That at least had a Bush ivolved.

“Of course, no sensible person thinks the Iraq war is Watergate, any more than it was Vietnam. There’s no crime here. The complaint seems to be merely that administration officials spoke with too much assurance when they described their beliefs about the present state of Iraq’s weapons programs. In other words, they did what politicians always do when trying to win public support for a policy: They made the most compelling argument they could. It’s hardly a scandal that the administration didn’t make its opponents’ case for them.”

do ya think james taranto would think quite the same, or be so forgiving, if he had invested money in a venture based on the same type of “compelling argument”?

i think we all know the answer to that question.

but you know how it goes, we all have our priorities.

it’s funny though, no matter how sickening the war party arguments get, i still can’t quite believe people could be so warped as to actually believe them.
