Army Muslim chaplain arrested as spy
A Chinese-American Islamic chaplain in the U.S. Army who had been ministering to the Al Qaeda prisoners at Guantanamo has been arrested, though not yet charged, on suspicion of espionage and aiding the enemy. Captain James Yee, also known as Youssef Yee, originally a Christian, was a 1990 graduate of West Point. You can’t get much more “assimilated” than being a West Point graduate. Yet, if the suspicions are true, that didn’t prevent Yee from betraying the United States. But never fear, liberals. The New York Times has put a positive spin on this minority possible traitor by publishing a sensitive, sympathetic photo of him on the main page of its online edition. Sedition and espionage sure don’t seem to be what they used to be.

I recall that the Romans had trouble with a multicultural military. Ah well, I am not so up on my history, and I am sure that everything worked out fine for them in the end. I note that this fellow was an ex-Pat living in Syria for a time while he studied has new religion. Previously, other than Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian Muslim fanatics, it seemed we only had to worry about Black Muslim terrorists. Let’s hope this isn’t the start of a trend… Posted by: Will S. on September 22, 2003 2:53 AM |
