Mother ordered not to tell child that homosexuality is wrong
Bizarre beyond words. Woman A adopts daughter. Woman A is in lesbian relationship with Woman B (it’s not clear if the relationship existed at the time of the adoption). Woman A becomes a Christian, decides homosexuality is wrong, and ends the lesbian relationship. Judge awards Woman B, who has no legal relationship with the child, joint custody over the child. Judge orders Woman A not to teach the child anything disapproving of homosexuality. Posted by Lawrence Auster at November 01, 2003 02:24 PM | Send Comments
Well, I just hope that this woman does not see a monument with the 10 commandments as she walks out of the courtroom. We do not want the government messing with people’s freedom of religion. Posted by: Thrasymachus on November 1, 2003 2:48 PMOne wonders why, if the principle this idiot judge just invented was already in the law, Southern (and other) whites weren’t simply barred from teaching or saying anything negative about black people in the Civil Rights-era South, upon pain of imprisonment. That would have been so much easier than the way things were actually done, wouldn’t it? But then, it wasn’t done that way *because it was/is illegal to do it that way!* Is anyone bringing this traitorous, anti-American judge up on charges? Posted by: Bubba on November 1, 2003 7:28 PMWe’ve spoken here before about the laws our dear neighbor to the north has in effect concerning speech that asserts the immoral and unnatural character of homosexuality. Just this year, a man was fined for taking out a newspaper ad that showed Bible references — not even whole verses — alongside a graphic of 2 ‘stick-figure’ men holding hands with a (\) through it. http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=31080 Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family has talked of how he has to edit out references against homosexuality in his programs destined for Canadian airwaves — it’s a no-no. We have asked before whether such stifling of our speech could happen here. (A few more prescient among us have asked _when_.) This is the first case I have heard where a judge has actually restricted the free speech of an American citizen on this topic. And it’s not even public speech; it’s speech to her own adopted daughter. Not only is free speech shot down, but the right of a parent to raise her child according to her own (religious!) beliefs is now intruded upon. It’s happening folks. Little by little, piece by piece, bit by bit, the forces that would destroy our sacred liberties and bind us in chains are tightening the cords and closing in. Paranoid? Just a few years ago, I would have thought any prediction of what has occured here was paranoid. Let’s make the most productive use of our time here on VFR while we still may.
