Yee charged with adultery, not espionage
We earlier reported the arrest and investigation of U.S. Army Muslim chaplain James Yee for espionage and aiding the enemy. We also wondered about the Army’s hiring Yee to minister to the Islamist prisoners at Guantanamo while failing to investigate him over the four years he had spent in Syria. Now the U.S. military has formerly charged Yee—for adultery and possession of pornography. No mention of espionage. It appears Yee was betraying his wife, not his country. Meanwhile, the espionage cases against two other military employees arrested for activities connected with Guantanamo are ongoing. I doubt that they have found evidence to clear him of espionage. They probably just do not have enough evidence to charge him with it. So they are going after Yee with the lesser charges and taking wait and see approach to the major stuff. Posted by: Thrasymachus on November 29, 2003 10:10 AM |
