Wall rebuts Morris on immigration
Last week Front Page published Dick Morris’s ignorant and wrongheaded defense of the Bush immigration plan. It included such whoppers as these: “As Catholic voters, who take their religion seriously, Hispanics are a natural Republican Constituency,” and “America has 4 percent of the world’s population but 25 percent of its wealth. It is incumbent on us to open our doors to those who seek upward mobility.” Today Front Page has published Allan Wall’s point-by-point rebuttal of Morris. Good for FP. But this doesn’t change the fact that FP, a magazine whose editor claims to stand for immigration restrictions, shouldn’t have published the Morris piece in the first place. Thanks to Mr. Auster for reading everything out there, which includes volumes of extremely depressing stories that I and probably a few others are unable to read. As a result, Mr. Auster not only keeps us well informed but often finds good news and reports it here, as he did with the Wall Street Journal and FrontPage articles. With the media largely ignoring and slanting the immigration stories in favor of immigrants, it is no wonder so many people have given up on the issue and have committed themselves to other issues. I suspect this is in part why Republicans think one is near the tinfoil hat category to vote Democratic as a way of getting rid of Bush and therefore possibly improving the immigration situation. We on the other hand have people like Mr. Auster around to inform us that all is not lost. Posted by: P Murgos on January 20, 2004 11:20 AMThanks to Mr. Murgos. Truthfully, I do not read all that much, certainly not nearly as much as I should. But I do try to keep up on the twists and turns of the debate.
