Jacoby horrified by 187-type measure in Arizona

Attacking a voter intiative in Arizona that would deny public services to illegal aliens (“Anti-Immigrant Fever in Arizona,” Los Angeles Times), the fanatical and mean-spirited open-borders propagandist Tamar Jacoby, formerly referred to in these pages as the Ineffable Tamar, speaks of “California’s Proposition 187 debacle … ”

In reality, this now proverbial “debacle” consisted of:

1. the political/media establishment demonizing 187;

2. the judiciary and politicos illegally killing 187 after it had been passed by a healthy margin;

3. the Republicans coming to the conclusion, after 187 had been passed and after the judiciary and politicos had illegally killed it, that it had harmed them, the Republicans, among Hispanics, whereas in fact it had been overall a strongly winning issue, and henceforth committing themselves to avoid all immigration reform and enforcement issues and to seek out opportunities to pander to Hispanics with the same devotion with which a Moslem prays toward Mecca.

This was the actual Proposition 187 debacle, not the fictional one spoken of by the all-too-effable Jacoby.
