The massive disconnect in the Republican brain
Republicans ecstatically laud Bush for his “strength,” but the reality is that Bush toppled the government of an Arab country without using enough military strength to defeat all the enemy forces there and gain actual control over that country. The result is this nightmarish terrorist insurgency with no end in sight. Has there ever been such a crazy thing—to invade a country and start building a whole new government there, without having first defeated the enemy, and without even having a capability and a strategy in place to do so? Meanwhile, sensing our weakness, Iran and Syria are now actively fomenting the war against the Americans in Iraq and against the supporters of the new Iraqi government. Barry Rubin in the Jerusalem Post provides a grim summing up of the situation. Posted by Lawrence Auster at August 31, 2004 04:04 PM | Send Email entry |
