Violence and civilization

In his keynote address to the GOP convention last night, Democratic Senator Zell Miller of Georgia not only exposed Kerry’s total unsuitability to be commander in chief more effectively than anyone has done so far, he said something fundamental about civilization and freedom that is widely forgotten or denied in modern society: that they rest on the use of force.
