The amazing closeness of the election of 2000—and of 2004?

An e-mail from English First reminds us how important individual votes can be in this election:
In 2000, 59 electoral-college votes were controlled by just 24,731 voters. Florida was won by just 537; New Mexico by 366; Iowa by 4,144; Wisconsin by 5,708; Oregon by 6,765; New Hampshire by 7,211.

Bad news for Gopher Bushies in the newest battleground— here’s the Twin Cities forecast:
“Election Day weather looks very nice, considering what could be happening tomorrow. We expect sunshine and highs ranging from mid 40s north to near 50 south.”

Will that help Kerry & the DFL? Maybe. But perhaps the clumsy elephant could use traction more than the donkey:
“On Election Day, 2000 we had a mix of rain and 1” of slushy snow. In 1992 1.2” of snow fell, and we had 6” of snow on the ground on Election Day!”

(From weatherman Paul Douglas, a good Christian man, at the Star Tribune.)
