Cataloguing the objections to Bush
Here is an e-mail by writer Spencer Warren that he forwarded to me, in which he summarizes his problems with Bush. While Mr. Warren says the ideas he expresses here are points to be considered and discussed rather than a definitive point of view, I agree with each and every one of them.
My problems with Bush:
- Immigration and Hispandering (his Spanish language website has a picture of the Mex flag!)
- Security—done little re open borders and won’t allow profiling on air travel!
- Out of control spending
- He endorsed diversity in the brief re. the Michigan aff action cases.
- Overall he plays on the liberals’ field. He doesn’t develop the issues of judicial usurpation of legislative authority, or elite contempt for the views of the people. The 10 Commands case should be big in the campaign, ditto homosexual marriage. I feel he and Rove play conservatives for saps.
Further, if he loses it will be his fault for not attacking the Dems in ‘02 and ‘03; they are so far left on foreign policy they should not even be in the race. (Oh for the days of VP Nixon and VP Agnew!) He never mentioned Kennedy’s and Gore’s wild attacks (on the divisiveness issue), nor Dem filibustering court nominees—unprecedented in US history.
Consider also:
- A Bush win is great news for Hillary in ‘08.
- A Bush win could cost us control of Congress in ‘06.
- Whereas a disastrous Kerry presidency will break the Dems for the first time since 1920 and produce a true conservative resurgence in ‘08, both in the White House and with a working Congressional majority for the first time since the twenties.
On this I have to agree with Lenin— one step back, two steps forward, only it would be five steps forward, if the country survives! (Plus I recognize the Supreme Court problem if the traitor wins.)
Vy best regards
Spencer Warren
