Was there an attempt to kill Bush in Chile?
In a very unusual presidential incident in Santiago, Chile over the weekend, President Bush waded back into a scuffling crowd of Chilean agents and U.S. Secret Service agents whom the Chileans were preventing from following the president into a banquet hall, and he pulled one of the U.S. agents out the melée to accompany him into the hall. According to the Powerline blog, this was more than the Chileans being difficult; there may have been an assassination attempt afoot, and Bush’s quick action may have saved his own life. Here’s a fuller account on the incident from the Washington Post. Posted by Lawrence Auster at November 22, 2004 01:23 PM | Send Comments
I think what happened in Chile was that two security teams, our secret service, and their security personal, got into a pissing match over who was in charge of security in Santigo that day. There is no doubt that what happened to the President’s lead SS agent was unusual, and troubling. But from what I have read so far there seems to be no larger plot, or evidence for such. I’m sure that as I type this out our SS is looking into just how Bush came to be put into the unusual position he found himself in. Methinks it was a case of macho behavior from the Chile security forces that got out of hand. I doubt the U.S. President will be visiting that country again soon. Does anyone have a URL for the videotape of this incident? Posted by: Lawrence Auster on November 22, 2004 11:22 PMI expected an assasination attempt in Colombia. Fortunately, so did the Columbian military and police. Why, if there was a serious threat to the President’s life, has our government made this public? It is hard to believe anyone would sit on this story, though conceivably Bush’s exaggerated affection for Latin Americans might be responsible…. Posted by: Alan Levine on November 23, 2004 12:20 PM |
