Steyn: Bush’s praise of evil European superstate means nothing
The horror I’ve expressed at Bush’s approving remarks about the European Union is silly and pointless, as least as Mark Steyn would see it. The U.S. and the EU simply have nothing substantive in common, Steyn observes, so there is nothing for the participants at the transatlantic meeting in Brussels to say, other than meaningless pleasantries. Steyn may be right, but if he is, that still doesn’t explain why Bush praises the EU so effusively. The Bushites’ operating assumption is that the words of the president of the United States don’t mean anything real and have no impact on the real world. This is certainly a convenient attitude for them to take, when the president says so many appalling things. Posted by Lawrence Auster at February 21, 2005 10:17 PM | Send Email entry |
