Evidence of the neocons’ betrayal of their former principles
I’ve said many times that the GOP establishment, and the neoconservatives in particular, have surrendered on issues that according to their own earlier statements defined America and defined conservatism, chiefly opposition to racial preferences, and opposition to moral liberationism, aka the culture wars. I just came upon an item from July 2003 which backs up that contention, an article by Tod Lindberg of the Washington Times written in the wake of the Grutter and Lawrence decisions, in which Lindberg, who happened to be John Podhoretz’s roommate at Harvard, observes, or rather commands, that no sensible Republican will henceforth contest either racial preferences or social issues.
