Is the burning of the library of Alexandria a myth?

I’m informed by Andy Bostom, who also provided the quote by the Moslem Sufi leader Al-Ghazali calling for the destruction of the infidels’ books, that the Moslem destruction of the library of Alexandria is not historical. I’ve seen this event referred to so often, and never contradicted, that I had simply accepted it as an accepted truth. Most of the references to the subject on the Web say that the Moslems did it, but there are contrary statements as well.
