Is the death of the evil EU in sight?
In the wake of the resounding rejection of the EU Constitution by the sovereign people of France and the Netherlands, the Telegraph has proposed the total discarding of the present EU and its replacement by a radically scaled-back European Commonwealth which would be strictly limited in its power over states.
Meanwhile, in another piece of wonderful news, that indefatigable rational leftist, Tony Blair (a rational leftist is one who is willing to defend his country from military threats, but still wants to destroy his country culturally), has “given up on Europe as an issue worth fighting for,” according to a cabinet minister quoted in the Telegraph. Blair has reportedly told his closest allies, “Africa is worth fighting for. Europe, in its present form [meaning the quest of European unification], is not.” Only three years ago, Blair had said that the euro is “our destiny” and hoped that European unification would be his political legacy. Now he hopes his legacy will be the fixing of African poverty. One thing you can be sure of when it comes to leftist politicians, whether of the rational or the irrational type: they’ve got to have some “higher” aim in mind other than the well-being of their own country.
