Are Fallaci’s condemnations of Islam true?
Now that Orianna Fallaci faces trial in Italy for making 18 “offensive” statements about Islam in her book,
The Force of Reason, Robert Spencer at
FrontPage Magazine examines the statements for their historical accuracy.
But, as VFR reader Carl Simpson notes below, the West’s plight is worse than Fallaci grasps, because we are not just being threatened by Islam from without (which is Fallaci’s focus), but by our own rush to dhimmitude from within.
Fallaci’s point 18 states:
“Despite the massacres through which the sons of Allah have bloodied us and bloodied themselves for over thirty years, the war that Islam has declared against the West … is a cultural war … they kill us in order to bend us. To intimidate us … Their goal is not to fill cemeteries. Not to destroy our skyscrapers … It is to destroy our soul, our ideas. Our feelings and our dreams. It is to subjugate the West once again.”
Fallaci is correct but she misses what I think is a more important point. The sad truth is that the Muslims won’t even have to work very hard to achieve their goal. The Western liberal mindset, epitomized in the ruling elites who embrace it so wholeheartedly, are doing a far more effective job of destroying the soul of the West than all of the Jihadis combined. When the President of the US and Secretary of State (the alleged “tough guys”, as opposed to fearless leaders like Chirac) issue statements of deference to the “Holy Koran” and run a prison for terrorist jihadis like a politically correct dayschool, it tells CAIR, Adel Smith (nice Italian name!), and their ilk that they won’t have to fight for much longer. The west is like a dripping overripe plum hanging from the tree, ready to fall into their hands.
The fact that this woman is even going on trial in Italy is surreal and fully indicative of how very deep the rot within is.
