Tom Tancredo has been savaged for his remark last week that in retaliation for a possible jihadist nuclear attack on U.S. cities, we should destroy the holy cities of Islam, particularly Mecca. Why is the remark so outrageous? Haven’t the critics heard of nuclear deterrence, the doctrine that kept the nuclear peace for 40 years?
