How Bush fulfilled his pledge to pick a judge like Scalia
In an article in the Weekly Standard, Fred Barnes purports to show how hard the president and the White House worked to make sure the person picked to be the next Supreme Court justice would not turn out to be another David Souter, i.e., a “flaming liberal.” But in the middle of the piece there comes this:
The president received messages through intermediaries that conservative Justice Antonin Scalia felt Roberts would be a great addition to the High Court. At least Bush aides thought the messages were from Scalia.Thought they were from Scalia?! How about making sure? If this is the great Bush screening process, as reported by a pro-Bush journalist, how much credence can anyone place in it? Posted by Lawrence Auster at July 25, 2005 04:20 PM | Send Email entry |
