Bigger than a wake-up call

A reader writes:

It’s morning and they are saying that there are still all the bad conditions! Astrodome is full, many of the evacuees have to be put elsewhere. There still seems to be lack of food and water in some places. This is not a wake-up call, it’s a wake-up siren, bomb alert, nuclear fallout alert and anything else you can think of as a metaphor for we’d better get our act together!!!
