If Israel is set on suicide, what are we supposed to do about it?
Ruth King of Americans for a Safe Israel is an indefatigable sender of articles about Israel, Muslim terrorism, and related topics. In response to an
article about the ruinous effects of the Gaza pull-out, I just sent her this:
Dear Ruth,
For some months, I’ve found it impossible to read much of anything about Israel. Since it is the Israeli people themselves, as expressed through their elected leaders, that are doing this, what’s the point of our getting upset about it? There’s nothing we can do about it. It’s their business, and their decision. It will inevitably lead to disaster, and then Israel will be forced again to strike back and try to undo the damage it has wreaked on itself.
I just don’t see the point of paying much attention to Israel right now. The current course will continue until there is a disaster. It’s apparent that all the complaints in the world will not stop the current course. Only disaster will stop it. So there’s nothing to do but wait for the disaster.
I’m sorry if this sounds cynical, but how else can one feel about a country that does this to itself?
