Destroying Israel is the explicit public aim of the Iranian regime

The speech in which the Iranian president called Israel a “disgraceful blot” that will be “wiped from the face of the Islamic world,” and said that any Muslim country that recognizes Israel “will burn in the fire of the Islamic nation’s fury” (here is an account of the whole speech), was delivered at a conference entitled “The World Without Zionism,” which, in case anyone is unclear on that fact, simply means the world without Israel.

The photo reminds me of another photo I’ll never forget that I came upon in a newspaper or magazine some years ago. It was of a gathering in a huge square in Nurenberg, Germany, with giant banners perhaps fifty yards long running along the sides of the square that said:

Deutchen! Die Juden sind unser Unglück. Deutchen Mädchen! Die Juden sind euer Unglück.

Germans! The Jews are our misfortune. Young German women! The Jews are your misfortune.

That photo made me see the reality of Nazi Germany as never before, as an entire society publicly organized around spreading hatred and loathing of a particular group, as a preparation for killing them.

I don’t have the photo available, but a reader sent me a similar one:

This is of a rally in Munich in 1933. The phrase, “The Jews are our misfortune!”, was coined by Heinrich von Treitschke in 1879 in the Preussische Jahrbücher. The same slogan also appeared at the bottom of the front page of each issue of the Nazi weekly newspaper, Der Stürmer.
