Alito’s conservative credo, 1985
Based on some of the things I’ve been hearing about Judge Samuel Alito’s rulings, I have been less than certain that he was the kind of judge I had been hoping for. But his forthright, ringing statement of his lifelong conservative political and judicial beliefs, in a 1985 application to become deputy asistant to the Attorney General, should be heartening to conservatives. The key paragraph is as follows:
I believe very strongly in limited government, federalism, free enterprise, the supremacy of the elected branches of government, the need for a strong defense and effective law enforcement, and the legitimacy of a government role in protecting traditional values.
