The undisguised bankruptcy of Team Bush
In this proposed speech for President Bush in Opinion Journal, neocon social scientist James Q. Wilson apparently feels that he’s putting words into Bush’s mouth that Bush hasn’t said before. In fact, it’s a word-by-word rehash of the same meaningless boilerplate the Bush team has been giving us for two and a half years. For example, Wilson’s “proof” that we are defeating the insurgency is that … (hold onto your seats for this stunningly new argument) … elections have been held, and a constitution has been approved. If this speech represents the “really good” news and arguments about Iraq that Bush for some reason has failed to deliver so far, then the cause must really be lost.
