The loss of our Americanness
A mainstream conservative columnist, who is Jewish, wrote to me about the Hanukah in the White House
discussion:
You wrote:
“And, most sadly of all, no one thinks to be offended at the thought of being invited to the White House as a member of a religious/cultural constituency, instead of as an American.”
Great (sad, sad) point.
My reply:
Thank you! Bless you for seeing this.
I’ve been criticized by several people for this article. They don’t see the problem. They keep saying, “But Jews are nice and good, while Muslims are a danger, so what’s wrong with having a Jewish celebration?” They have bought into the multiculturalist assumptions and feelings. They just want THEIR version of multiculturalism to prevail.
The correspondent replied:
I’ll bet—I haven’t researched it—but I’ll bet the Hannukah reception is a first (although strange, if so, Powerline didn’t note it as such). Writing up the Ramadan dinners (and I’ve been doing that since 2001), I have never picked up an inkling of a major Jewish (or any other religion) holiday shindig on the White House website or in the media.
My feeling is that White House outreach on a Jewish holiday is COVER for Ramadan.
It’s the only way to put the critique of the singularity of the Muslim celebration to rest. Let’s see if they do Denali, Winter Solstice (druids)— let alone Christmas!
My reply:
I agree. See my point at the end of this discussion.
