The democratist fantasy exposed
The emperor—or, in the case, the Messiah of Democracy—has no clothes, and Diana West is the only mainstream conservative columnist who will say it loud and clear. President Bush declared that as a result of the Iraqi elections, “America has an ally of growing strength in the fight against terror.” In fact, as West points out, the elections in Iraq, as well as in Egypt, have empowered our terrorist enemies.
Western liberals such as President Bush will never get it (or, rather, they will never get it as long as they remain liberals). If you give Muslims democracy, they will not elect liberal governments, but Islamic governments, because they don’t believe in liberalism or democracy, they believe in Islam. Similarly, if you permit a mass influx of Muslim immigrants into a Western liberal country, they will not assimilate into that country, but exploit its freedoms and openness to Islamize it, because they don’t believe in freedom and openness, they believe in Islam.
