Jews, Israel, and the evil lies of Munich
Jews are, as the saying goes, just like everyone else, only more so. And here’s an example. Based on the modern liberal conception that the West is guilty for being successful, and thus guilty for existing, the entire Western world seems bent on suicide—and the Jews, even more so. This thought was triggered by Bret Stephens’s column at Opinion Journal in which he summarizes everything that is false and lying and evil about Stephen Spielberg’s Munich. In this fictional movie claiming to be history, the Palestinian murderers whom the Israeli agents systematically execute are portrayed as humane, civilized men; the Israelis, as morally compromised, soulless power holders who just want to have their way through murder, a Machiavellian policy against which the conscience-stricken protaganist rebels, even abandoning Israel to live in Brooklyn. That this movie, which delegitimizes Israeli self-defense and therefore delegitimizes the state of Israel, was written by a Jew, Tony Kushner (who says the founding of the state of Israel was a “calamity”), and directed by a Jew, Spielberg, shows that you don’t need to be an anti-Semite to be on the side of those seeking to destroy Israel; you just need to be a liberal. This realization leads us to a further bitter irony. The main gripe of most Judeo-critics, anti-Semites, and Israel-haters in this country is that the American Jewish community cares more about Israel than about the United States. But who are the two main political factions of American Jews? They are the left-liberal Jews and the neoconservative Jews. The left-liberal Jews, such as Spielberg and Kushner, are, of course, promoters of the suicidal “peace process,” or even of outright surrender bypassing the “peace process.” The neoconservatives, who used to be skeptical of the “peace process” if not opposed to it,—Norman Podhoretz called for the abrogation of the Oslo Accords in 1998—have now, with Podhoretz in the forefront, signed on heart and soul to President Bush’s insane “peace through Palestinian democratization and statehood” policy, in which the U.S. government continues to push Israel to make concessions to, and to prepare the way to the statehood of, a completely unreformed, still rejectionist, still thoroughly terrorist Palestinian entity.
The upshot is that most of organized American Jewry supports Israeli appeasement and surrender to the Arabs, even as the Judeo-critics believe that the most objectionable thing about American Jews is their excessive concern for Israeli security at the expense of American security. The reality is that all shades of mainstream Western opinion today, liberal and “conservative,” are, to one degree or another, suicidal—and the Jews, even more so. Email entry |
