Challenging war supporters on Muslim immigration
I just came upon an e-mail I sent to Andrew Sullivan in March 2004 about the war on terror/Islamism/radical Islam, which he supported strongly, and the question of Muslim immigration, about which he was silent. I have written similar e-mails to various neocon war supporters over the last few years. Only in rare instances did I receive a reply, and it would always be rather vague. In the wake of the Muhammad cartoon jihad, could some neocons be ready to change their tune?
I wrote to Sullivan:
You wrote:
“Islamism does not seek to integrate itself into Europe. It seeks the abolition of Europe as a democratic, peaceful, pluralist place. And America must understand that this war cannot be lost in Europe either. We need a real and vigorous effort to reunite Europe and the U.S. against this danger.”
Given the above, what do you propose Europe do about the millions of Moslems living in Europe, a great many of them Islamists, and the untold millions more wanting to come? And the same for the U.S.
How can you stand not addressing this issue? How can you constantly be calling for war against this militant Islam which is embraced by a large part of the worldwide Moslem community, and at the same time either stoutly ignore the growing danger presented by Moslem immigration in the West, or else say that you support immigration openness?
How long can you continue avoiding this fundamental question which goes to the heart of the war on militant Islam?
As far as I see it, there is no getting around the fact, that if Europe and America want to lessen or end the Islamist threat, they must stop all future mass immigration of Moslems, AND start deporting a significant number of the ones already in the West.
If you don’t agree with what I just said, then at least you’ve to make an argument why. But if you don’t at least attempt to deal with the issue, then it’s impossible to see your position on the war on terror as serious and in good faith.
