Man bites dog—a western European country rejects homosexual marriage

From Gary Bauer’s February 23, 2006 message:

France Gets It!

This isn’t something you will read here often, but when it comes to the family, France gets it! A government commission there recently considered the issue of same-sex marriage, and its report could have been written by my good friend, Dr. James Dobson.

Among the findings: Marriage is not merely the contractual recognition of the love between a couple; it is a framework that imposes rights and duties, and that is designed to provide for the care and harmonious development of the child. In other words, there is more at stake than the interests of two adults.

The report also discouraged homosexual adoption and the use of reproductive technology by homosexual couples after considering “the consequences for the child’s development and identity of creating a fictitious [relationship] by law two fathers or two mothers which is biologically neither real nor plausible.

As Congress prepares to debate a federal marriage protection amendment later this summer, I hope American politicians will seriously consider the ramifications of radically redefining marriage and the family.
