Cheney is attacked, and conservatives defend … their man?

A VFR reader asks:

During the recent fracas over Dick Cheney, the media kept saying that Cheney is a favorite in the red states and with the conservative base. Could this be true? He is an open supporter of gay marriage. If conservatives continue to be enthusiastic about him, they must be in denial.
