Thornton “gets” Islam

A terrific article by Bruce Thornton on what is the real source of Islamic fanaticism (it’s the belief that Islam is the one true way to God and real human happiness and fulfillment) and on the remarkable collection of fatuous theories by which Westerners blind themselves to this fact (they constantly attribute Muslim fanaticism to some secondary social or political or psychological cause rather than to the nature of Islam itself, as I myself have frequently argued). The piece appears at Victor Hanson’s website, further adding to the picture of Hanson’s epic intellectual confusions. Hanson must agree enough with Thornton to publish him, yet none of Thornton’s understandings ever creep into Hanson’s own writings, which repeatedly indulge in the very illusions that Thornton is discussing. This is no surprise. Since Hanson, as is evident to anyone who reads him, doesn’t comprehend what he himself is saying half the time, why should he comprehend what others are saying?

A reader informs me that Hanson and Thornton do not agree on these issues. He continues: “But I think it is to Hanson’s credit that he allows Thornton unfettered access to his, Hanson’s, website despite their disagreement.”
