How liberalism could survive
Keeping VFR at the cutting edge of societal evolution, a reader comes up with an inventive scenario that gets around my oft-stated view that for the West to survive, liberalism must die. He writes:
Your English correspondent writes that “It was the use of paramilitaries to assassinate targeted IRA/Sinn Fein members which finally brought the IRA to its knees…” I don’t know how much truth there is in this claim, but it struck me as very significant with regard to Europe’s Islamic problem. One can readily imagine low-level European/Muslim wars being conducted unofficially, by illegal paramilitaries, while the European governments in question adopted an official attitude of condemnation of both parties, possibly while lending support to the paramilitaries behind the scenes. In this way, perhaps, the Islamic problem might be solved while European governments and their liberal supporters managed to retain their sanctimonious attitude towards the “violent European supremacists” who were actually saving their bacon. Thus, liberalism could survive the bloodshed which it had made necessary—a remarkable achievement! (Then, after the conflict was over, maybe the paramilitaries could be put on trial.)Talk about the liberal managerial state! Posted by Lawrence Auster at March 10, 2006 10:45 AM | Send Email entry |
