Daniel Pipes reports that the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade has created a “Muslim Communities Working Group Operational Unit,” which, according to an internal document by former prime minister Brian Mulroney, will serve as as “clearing house and focal point within the Department for issues concerning relations with the Muslim world; build the Department’s policy capacity on this subject; and take the lead in providing timely, strategic advice on relations with the Muslim world, and the lead in creating a policy framework for our overall approach to this subject.” Mulroney adds that “UK, Netherlands, Germany, and others all have such a capability already well-established.”
In other words, Muslims in several major Western countries, now including Canada, are the principal, official influence on those countries’ respective foreign policies toward Muslim countries. Email entry |
