TNR calls for total cultural surrender to Mexicans; TNR reader defends white West

Though you’ve posted some pretty outrageous quotes from the liberal (not to mention the “conservative”) end of the debate, I do not recall any which actually counseled the complete surrender of our cultural sovereignty like this cover article (“Border War”) from the January 16th issue of The New Republic:

That furor will not abate until at least one of two conditions is met. The first is a dramatic generational change in the cultural attitudes of non-Latino Americans—meaning the acceptance of biculturalism in large parts of the United States, including Arizona. Frank Pierson, the supervising organizer of Arizona’s Valley Interfaith Network, a coalition of church and labor groups that promotes cultural integration, wants Arizonans to adopt the biblical tradition of showing “love for the stranger.” But non-Latino Americans probably have to reach a point where they no longer see immigrants from south of the border as strangers at all.

Luckily there are signs of resistance even among the liberal New Republic’s paying readership. Here is a bulletin board post in response to a different pro-illegal immigrant article. Though the style is a little unpolished, the argument is quote cogent, and seems to touch upon every traditionalist point you yourself have made (perhaps the author is a View from the Right reader?):

I loathe Bush, but you guys keep reminding me why no White male can vote for a Democrat. (1) Criminal aliens are criminals. You want to change the law and say that everyone born anywhere in the world is an American citizen with all the rights of an American citizen. Fine. But as long as that is not the law, enforce the current law. Is there any law at all that you want to enforce? Apparently you believe no one should obey any law. (2) Years ago, TNR was a Marxist publication and stood for working persons. Now you agree with big corporations that we must flood the country with vicious criminal aliens in order to drive down wages for all American workers. (3) Behind this all stands hatred of European White culture. You know Bach, Brahms, Ingres, Mozart, Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals, the Industrial Revolution, the sciences of biology, physics, and chemistry, etc., etc. If wanting to preserve White culture is “racist,” then I am proud to be a racist. You guys go all weepy when some tribe of stone age savages who live off the slime on snails and who have a vocabulary of 100 words are dying out. Oh, Oh you say, we must preserve that wonderful culture. Yet when it comes to wanting to preserve Western civilization, you gloat over the fact that Mexicans and other non-Whites are destroying White European civilization. Oh Oh, you say. Those whites are so disgusting. Isn’t it wonderful that their civilization is being destroyed. (4) Just on economic grounds, immigration from Mexico will destroy the USA. Mexico is a country that borders on two oceans, has a temperate climate, and is extremely wealthy in natural resources. Mexico is poor because the Mexicans have an lousy, degraded, inferior culture. Mexico is what it is because it is inhabited by Mexicans. If we let Mexicans into the US, they will turn the USA into what Mexico is. But of course that will make you happy because you hate White European culture and want to ethnically cleanse the world of White Europeans.
