Jorge Busheron
“He’s eatin’ bagels, he’s eatin’ pizza, he’s eatin’ chitlins,” sang Bob Dylan in 1962, making gentle fun of politicians’ tireless strivings to be all things to all people. However, eating ethnic food to appeal to an assimilated American ethnic group is one thing. Waving the flag of an unassimilated ethnic group’s native or ancestral country—a country, moreover, that is openly pursuing a revanchist campaign against this country—is something else. But, as I’ve been warning people since 2000, George W. Bush is something else: the first leading Republican who endorsed multiculturalism and the Hispanicization of America, and who added that anyone who opposed those things was motivated by resentment. What’s next in Bush’s career of minority outreach? Maybe he’ll become the honorary jefe of the Latin Kings. Email entry |
