Must Britain be destroyed before it can be saved?
Melanie Phillips captures the utter moral collapse of British society in the face of the Islamic threat. Given the Brits’ unfathomable tendency to attribute to Western mistreatment of Muslims even the most wicked and hateful Muslim attitudes and behaviors, what could possibly turn the British around or lead them to defend themselves? They are lost and there seems to be no hope for them. Phillips’s portrayal strengthens the sense I’ve had since last July that the only way the British can wake up as a people again—if it can happen at all—will be through disaster piled on disaster. Only when the Muslim reality becomes literally unbearable to them, and it’s a matter of life and death, will they cast off that state of non-being that they call tolerance and stability.
