It’s time for Olmert to go
With the newly erupted, two-front war in and around Israel, Kadima—the party created by Ariel Sharon for the sole purpose of carrying out the unilateral withdrawal policy initiated by himself and continued by his successor Ehud Olmert—has lost its excuse for existing. In a parliamentary system, when a prime minister’s policies have been wholly discredited, he’s supposed to resign, right? Is there no Israel political party or leader who staunchly opposed the Sharon/Olmert Gaza pullout and the planned West Bank pull-out, who said clearly that the pull-outs would lead to greatly increased Arab attacks, and who has an alternative strategy? Wouldn’t it be time for such a party or leader to take the helm in Israel? Or are the Israelis so broken down and demoralized that they have no viable political alternative to the three failed options of Peace Process I, Peace Process II, and Endless Conflict Management?
