How about some frills for once?

Speaking of Ann Coulter and what VFR reader Gintas called her “aging ho” look, check out the picture of her that is prominently featured this week at Power Line (if the ad is not being displayed at Power Line see this pop-up). Evidently today’s conservatives think this is a good image with which to promote conservatism.

Paul K. writes:

Looking at this photo of Ann Coulter one has to wonder what on earth was she thinking. Between her haggard face, frowzy hair, and skimpy cocktail dress, she looks as if she just woke up in Central Park after a wild night on the town. When a woman does not adjust to the fact that the bloom is off the rose, she soon becomes an object of ridicule. Ann Coulter, who is 45, apparently lacks the maturity to understand that at her age a long skirt, jacket, and dignified hairstyle would be more becoming.

Joining you in incredulity,

LA writes:

Since a discussion about modern architecture was posted simultaneously with this entry, it occurs to me that Ann Coulter’s “look” (including her trademark black sheath) is to female beauty what the Bauhaus School or the International School is to architecture: no ornament, no becoming variety of texture and fabric and color, no inviting charm or beauty. Just bare soulless functionality proclaiming its bareness, set off by the single striking feature of her long hair. It is this modern starkness of hers, more than the skimpiness of her outfits, that makes her such an inappropriate symbol of conservatism.

A female correspondent writes:

Even calling it a sheath makes it sound more chic and beautiful than it is. The word “sheath” is reminiscent of those beautifully tailored numbers worn in the fifties and early sixties by such as Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren, and Jackie Kennedy. What Coulter is wearing is really an elongated tank top.

LA replies:

I knew sheath wasn’t the best word, but I couldn’t think of a better word. In fact, “elongated tank top” is perfect.
